An exciting, specially devised "learn-by-doing" series that covers all the sports and activities 8-11 year-olds want to be good at. The annotated photo-sequences and advice come from top practicing professionals and coaches.
Step-by-step instructional guide. Morrissey begins with a brief history of the sport and proceeds with the basics: the equipment needed, how to lace skates, and warm-up exercises. After this introduction, the author explains the various steps, starting with the simplest and advancing to backward skating, edges, jumps, spins, etc., using diagrams and full-color photographs and detailed captions. Finally, Morrissey mentions other sports and career opportunities that young ice skaters may choose to pursue. The photographs are wonderful. Boys and girls are represented as are various ethnic groups. There are a few shots of world-renowned skaters. Young skaters will relish this book, while nonathletes may find it interesting enough to read or browse through. Although there are a few other titles that cover this subject, none of them can match this well-written, attractively illustrated offering.
